Semper Math

Math, one step at a time, with Pip.

Short chalkboard lessons that teach the idea before the trick. Pip draws it, works it out one line at a time, and then hands your child the pencil.

Every lesson, the same five moves

How Pip teaches

  1. 01

    A picture first

Every lesson opens with something you can see: a balance scale, a bar, a number line. The idea makes sense before the rule has a name.

  2. 02

    One step at a time

Pip writes each line of the work and says why it is allowed. Nothing appears out of nowhere, so your child can follow every move.

  3. 03

    The common mistake

Pip shows the wrong turn most kids take, then checks it, so your child learns to catch it on their own paper.

  4. 04

    Your turn

Pause the video, grab a pencil, and try a few problems. Then Pip works through each answer on the board.

  5. 05

    Checked by code

Every number on the board is computed and verified by a program before the lesson is recorded. The answers are right.

Solving One-Step Equations

Pip puts a mystery bag on a balance scale to show why you do the same thing to both sides, then solves all four kinds: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

New lessons land on our YouTube channel first.

The app behind the lessons

Pip, live

Slate is a voice tutor on a digital chalkboard. Your child writes the work, and Pip reads each line as it goes, talks it through out loud, and points at the exact step that went wrong.

  • Reads your child's handwriting, line by line, as they write.
  • Talks, listens, and waits for your child to answer before writing the next step.
  • Skills from counting to precalculus, so it meets each learner where they are.
  • A grown-ups view shows what clicked and what to practice next.
